Salted Caramel Ice Cream
Ingredients
Ice Cream Base:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp sea salt (adjust to taste)
Optional Add-ins:
- Caramel swirls, toffee bits, or chopped pecans
Instructions:
1. Make the caramel:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until dissolved, then stop stirring and let it cook until it turns amber.
2. Add butter and cream:
- Reduce heat to low. Carefully whisk in butter, then slowly whisk in heavy cream (it will bubble up).
3. Add milk, vanilla, and salt:
- Stir in milk, vanilla extract, and sea salt until smooth.
4. Chill:
- Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 2–4 hours until fully chilled.
5. Churn the ice cream:
- Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
6. Freeze:
- Transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
7. Serve:
- Scoop and enjoy — add a caramel drizzle or toffee bits if you want extra crunch.
